The world is coming to an end! America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) gave the boot to Nigel Barker, Miss J and Jay Manuel. What!?! No more smize?
According to the New York Post, Model turned media mogul Tyra Banks swung the ax at her longtime “America’s Next Top Model” co-stars J. Alexander, Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker yesterday, dismissing three of the competition’s longest-running personalities in one fell swoop. There is word that there are are “major changes planned” for Cycle 19.
Nigel Barker wrote on his blog: “I will miss the cast, the crew and ‘ANTM’ will always have a special place in my heart, having made life-long friendships with countless fond memories.”
According to the New York Post, the modeling show’s executive producer Ken Mok said in a statement:
“Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and J. Alexander have been an integral part of the ‘America’s Next Top Model’ brand and they helped turn this show into the household name it is today. They have been amazing assets to the show and will always be a part of the ‘Top Model’ family. We will continue to actively work with each of them on future projects.”
Amazing assets is right. After nearly twenty seasons, much has changed on the show. Plenty of judges have come and gone, including Kimora Lee Simmons, Nolé Marin, Beau Quillian, Twiggy, Janice Dickinson, Paulina Porizkova and André Leon Talley.
But some things never changed, namely the presence of Nigel, Miss J and Jay. Nigel was the soothing one, balancing out the crazy. Jay was the encouraging one, always bringing the energy. And Miss J? Well, Miss J was the personality, encapsulating the “fierceness” Tyra loves to talk about. Plus who else had long legs to stomp down that runway?
Can Tyra keep ANTM fans still watching??
