There are few things in life that should be flaky; coconut flakes, snow flakes, even frosted cornflakes (yum, weakness). Your lips should not be one of those things. Whether its winter, summer, or anything in between, your lips need to be soft, supple, and ready for any lip product you throw its way. Why waste money and slather on all types of different chemicals when all you need can be found in your pantry? With a few inexpensive household kitchen items, you can have an all natural plumping sugar lip scrub whipped up in minutes.
Sugar lip scrubs help to rub off the flaky dead skin that forms over the lips, while simultaneously nourish and moisturize the lips. But this isn’t your average lip scrub. Why not have the scrub do double duty and help plump your lips as well? The “plump” in the plumping sugar lip scrub comes from the addition of cayenne pepper- it’ll gently stimulate and tingle your lips, giving you a complete moisturized perfect pout!
Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
Coconut oil (love this stuff), honey, sugar (either granulated or brown, whatever you have on hand. Brown tends to be softer, so if prone to sensitivity, stick with brown sugar), cayenne pepper, a spoon, and a mixing bowl.
The amount you use will vary on whether its a one time use, or if you want to make a batch and store it for a few days. Typically, one teaspoon of oil and honey to about a tablespoon of sugar works, but mix and match depending on your desired consistency.
Start by mixing the coconut oil and honey together
Next add the sugar
Once the sugar has been mixed in, the consistency should look a little bit like this. Now’s the time to add more sugar if you feel like it is looking a little too runny for your taste
After the desired consistency, you can now add the cayenne pepper. Depending on your level of sensitivity, you can add a little or a lot to the scrub. In most cases, a dash of cayenne pepper adds the perfect amount of tingly satisfaction, but if you want your lips on fire, by all means add more!
After all the ingredients have been mixed in, your consistency should be grainy and able to drip slowly off the back of your spoon
You can use the mixture right away, or a great way to get a firm scrub is to pop the mixture in your freezer for about 5-10 minutes.
Then scrap away and it is ready to use! Standing over a sink, and using your fingers, rub the scrub all over, and slightly outside, your lips for 1-2 minutes. Take care not to lick your lips (cayenne pepper!) and scrub those flakes right off. Wash off with lukewarm water, and then run a moistened towel or paper towel over your lips. This will scrap off any remnants. Top off your fresh lips with an application of your favorite lip balm. To maximize the plumping action, use a balm with peppermint oil; it will soothe your lips and help give you that bee-stung pout!
Your are now ready for some serious lip action- lip products that is! Do this scrub a few times a week, or everyday, and you will for sure be CHIC!
