When you are trying to make your way in any industry, it’s not always what you know, but also who you know. With that said, networking is always the foundation for great success. Networking can be a bit intimidating, especially if you are not a socially inclined person. Even if you are a social butterfly, the anxiety from the thought of all the successful people you are bound to meet can be enough to overwhelm you.
Honestly, it has been quite some time since I attended a networking event, so I was a bit nervous myself. Unknowing of what to expect, more specifically what type of crowd I was to mingle amongst had me breaking a few sweats. Not to mention, DC was hot and humid as always and taking walking directions from my GPS in DuPont Circle was not particularly friendly. (Luckily, I wore flats and my nude pumps were in my tote.) I was dressed in my coral colored BCBG power skirt and a statement necklace adorned with neon green, coral and gold chains. Once I got my bearings straight, my chic outfit gave me enough confidence to pull me through the night. I was sure I would conquer what I came to accomplish; meet some new people and spread the word about how awesome MzMahoganyChic.com is.
Landry Imagery Inc. founded by Corey R Landry, hosted the event. I had the pleasure of mingling with Dr. Landry himself, and other members of his staff to include: Jasmine Reed , Rianna Felder, Ashley Wright, a few interns, and last but not least, some of his very beautiful and handsome models.
Some of my most memorable industry professionals I met that night included; Lana of the online boutique Maylanascloset.com, Cherkita of Bella Contessa Jewelry, and Alexis, a stunningly beautiful upcoming model. Lana was decked out in an orange African print dress and a pair of Prada Baroque style sunglasses. Cherkita wore a lovely vintage yellow hat, which was passed down from her grandmother. Alexis decided to keep it simple and classy in a black and white dress with bright red lips to complete her look.
The evening was a lot more relaxed than what I was expecting. The intimate crowd made me feel as if I were catching up with old friends from high school that I haven’t seen in years. Everyone was dressed in a way that was iconic to their individual style, which gave me plenty to talk about. Thank you Landry Imagery for a truly glamorous and fashionable evening. I will be patiently awaiting your next event!
