I was eight-years-old when I first set foot in a stable. The memory still seems incredibly fresh. So fresh that I can still remember the sounds, smells, and images as if they were playing out before me. I remember that being the moment I decided to become a professional equestrian rider. Although, the idea didn’t sit quite so well with my mother. If I recall correctly, she uttered something about the entire idea being extremely ludicrous.
So with my horse riding dreams crushed, I went on to achieve other goals that didn’t include a stable. Flash forward 13 years later and I’m revisited by an old ghost. As I turn on the television to NBC, I see that equestrian sports were actually included in the 2012 Olympic Games this year. All the memories I had packed up and stored away came crashing back into focus. But there was something I hadn’t noticed before that I was beginning to realize now. The outfits that these equestrians were wearing were utterly chic.
Gone was the wanting I once had as a little girl. It was now replaced by a longing to be near the equestrians so I could simply admire their outfits, pretty odd when you think about it. Here is a sport that has been around since forever and all I wanted to do was ogle at the outfits. But then again why wouldn’t one want to?
Polo’s, riding boots, skin tight pants, and helmets. Yes, it just wouldn’t be the same without helmets. I was in love all over again. Not only is this trend a huge hit at the Olympics but it’s almost impossible to open a fashion magazine without seeing the latest model sporting the trend. Not to mention almost every important designer has incorporated the trend into their shows. Gucci, Hilfiger, Lauren; they’re all on the band wagon and it’s time you jump on it too!

Now you’re probably wondering how on earth one could even pull this crazy trend off let alone if it’s even possible. Well the guessing game ends here. You don’t have to be gold medalist to be able to pull this look off. Try picking one of the items and incorporating it into your look for fall. For instance, take the knee high riding boots and pair them with some skinny jeans, and oversized blazer to complete the look.
Or try a knit turtleneck paired with a tweed jacket and a messenger bag. My way of setting this trend off is using all the items on the list. Taking a polo, placing a tweed blazer over it, paring it with some knee high riding boots and finishing off the look with a messenger bag. The look screams equestrian. Either way you decide incorporating this trend into your look, you’ll be sure to look chic.
But just be prepared, you might just find yourself heading off to the stables yourself, it’s that inspiring.
