Spending my early childhood in South Carolina my fondest memory is of my grandfather going out into the woods to hunt for game. For some odd reason I was intrigued by his hunting adventures and it created a curiosity within me that has lasted well into my adulthood. The correlation between him hunting in the woods and the mystery meat that ended up on the dinner table was not made apparent to me until years later. However, it did not kill my desire to learn how to handle a firearm.
I was very excited to go on my first trip to the shooting range accompanied by my fiancé despite the fact that I had not the slightest idea of how to handle a firearm other than how easy it looked in movies. I was anxious and ready to go until we got closer to the entry of the range. I could hear the loud popping noise through the door. Naturally, my first instinct was to run, but the Mr. was blocking my escape route. So I fixed my earmuffs and put on my oversized protective glasses (the kind that reminded me much of the goggles that you wear for science labs) and pranced into our designated stall.
After a quick lesson on how to load the magazine clips, properly loading the gun, aiming and shooting the assault rifle, I was already to go. My first few shots didn’t make the target. But once my anxiety began to melt away and the clamminess from my hands dried up I managed to hit a red zone on the target.
I have heard many clichés about how unladylike it is for a woman to handle firearms, but to my surprise, I was not the only woman there. Just as myself, the other women were being given lessons by their lovers. One woman was even shooting a hunting rifle while wearing heels. Talk about dangerously chic! Suddenly it dawned on me that the market for firearms has become just as fashionably acceptable for women as it is for men. Being the true Google queen that I am, I was able to find some very fashionable attire worn by firearm friendly women.

Seeing some of the western inspired fashions makes me anxious to find a modernized way to incorporate the look into my wardrobe for this upcoming fall. I can always appreciate a nice pair of leather cowboy boots. Or even a bullet studded pair of stilettos. Who would have thought playing with guns could be oh so CHIC.
