MAC cosmetics known for its’ black packaging, wide color assortments and frequent limited-editions, is the leading authority backstage for Fashion Week. With the help from parent company Estée Lauder led by Gordon Espinet, they show at 850 shows globally, 47 weeks a year. With their 25-person team dedicated solely to organizing Fashion Week activities, designer relations and logistics with senior makeup artists in New York, London, Milan and Paris every season.
MAC not only sets trends for the seasons but they also take the opportunity to use the backstage as a laboratory, testing samples in development. With no help from television advertising, and limited print, Fashion Week is crucial to the marketing strategy for the company. MAC has sponsored Fashion Week at Bryant Park for several years now. September 2009 they teamed up with Milk Studios for a few seasons. No longer with the exclusive makeup brand backstage, they still provide makeup to 75 percent of the designers showing there.
Continuing to be the lead in creating memorable looks for this season, the brand is affiliated with 80 shows for this New York Fashion Week and is expanding into other categories like nail polish, which was provided for the first time for fall 2012 collections.
MAC Senior Artists will be reporting live on backstage beauty and trends via Twitter updates from Fashion Week in New York, London, Paris and Milan.
