On October 13, 2012 Afua Sam, CEO and head designer of Studio D’Maxsi, featured her collection during NOVA Fashion Week. This year’s event was held at Virginia’s Artisphere Urban Arts Center. This unique venue offered ample space to showcase her collection and hold a networking event.
Prior to the start of the show there was a Business Networking event that allowed two full hours of mingling with people in the fashion industry and other outlets. Once the networking event came to a close, the doors for the area where the fashion show took place were opened. Vendors sold exquisite jewelry pieces and other tables filled with KIND health foods and IZZE sparkling juices. Chair lined the room and attendees anxiously waited a show.
Afua Sam’s designs were eye-catching and gave a sense of glamour mixed with practicality that would be great for various events and occasions. Her color palette consisted mainly of neutral tones, some with a pop of color. The strong colors and intricate details complemented the femininity of the clothes. At the end there was a tribute to breast cancer awareness in which she displayed a gorgeous dress made solely from black lace bras.
The icing on the cake was the finale. The models walked made it possible to see the intricate work of the garments intimately. This too allowed some time to network with the designer, models, hair stylist, makeup artist and other staff that contributed to the show. We are excited to see what else Afua Sam has in store.
