Anyone who knows me, knows that I love award show season. I love the glamour, the fashion, the emotional acceptance speeches, and the next day breakdown of who wore what. The whole spectacle is almost like magic and celebrities employ teams of people to look absolutely perfect. Not a ripple of skin where it doesn’t belong, not a single strand of hair out of place, perfection is achieved on the red carpet which is why it is so refreshing to see natural hair on the red carpet. In the midst of all the extensions and weaves we are now seeing stunning women with natural hair pop up one by one on the red carpet.
Remember when Viola Davis Rocked her TWA to the OSCARS last year? That was a great moment because it was shocking (I had never seen Viola Davis without a hairpiece) and it showcased her natural beauty. The internet basically exploded with comments about how stunning Miss Davis looked with her natural hair and how it complimented her entire look. Viola Davis has been spotted wearing her hair naturally at other events including this past Sunday’s SAG Awards.
Most recently, actress Teyonna Parris of Mad Men wore a crazy fierce natural updo to the SAG Awards (which you can check out here!). The look incorporated slicked back sides and the ever popular pompadour/bun. The style is easy to recreate and super sleek for an elegant event. Once again, everyone is talking about the hair and bringing natural hair into the spotlight.
I think it’s great to see natural hair in Hollywood because it means it is becoming the norm. Actresses like Viola Davis, Teyonna Parris, and Nicole Ari Parker are rocking their natural tresses on a regular basis. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with a wig or weave, it’s refreshing to see the standards of beauty evolving to include everyone and their unique look. Now that our beauty is being featured on the red carpet, I am even more excited (is that possible?) for the remainder of awards season and some styling inspiration.
What do you ladies thing about the gals in Hollywood going natural? Does it inspire you? Who’s your favorite natural haired celeb?
