The A-listers of S-style must have picked their outfits for Paris Haute Couture Spring 2013 long before Pantone announced Emerald as the color of the year. The greens spotted out and about were of the military and neon P.O.C. variety, rather than of the gem and jewel-toned. Instead, the streets were speckled with neutrals, navy, and noir.
Stars and stylish showgoers alike followed these patterns, with the exception of those dressed in their own costume-y couture just for the occasion. Contrasting against grey skies and snowy streets or shining in the dark runway rooms, the wearers looked classic and chic. Doubling as form and function, the favorite wild-card materials seemed to be oversized furs and sleek leather. Not only did they keep our latest street style-spirations warm, but they also added fun textures and luster to their looks. We’re not out of winter just yet, so trade out your classic pea coat and consider including one of these unexpected layers instead!
One of the most talked, blogged, and buzzed about individuals out on the streets of Couture Fashion Week was Miroslava Duma. Daughter of Russian Senator Vasilay Duma and former editor of Harper’s Bazaar Russia, Miroslava Duma is now a freelance writer, mother, and street style icon. Her sweet looks are always unique and include her own Russian twist, but even the young Duma’s looks fell in line with the simple palette, as shown below:
To step outside of solid colors, a less common but still apparent trend was rocking black and blossoms. The strong, sleek contrast against vibrant fleurs made for a statement look that balanced an air of polished glamour. To avoid looking too busy, most looks included a single piece of the look in a single floral print, coordinated with confident black, and perfected with accessories in hues matching one or two of the focus colors in the floral piece.
To try this look yourself, mix fresh florals with fierce black for a Parisian Chic look inspired by the latest Haute Couture street style! While the elegant black showcases your bold confidence, it is balanced by the buoyant blossoms of spring. Much like your spring garden, prune through your closet to find a single statement floral piece and look like you’re in full bloom, not too busy! Add in a little on-point emerald to be truly à la mode!
