Being obsessed with fashion means you’re constantly flipping through the magazines, reading all the blogs, catching all the trends and wanting to wear every single designer piece that catches your eye. But let’s be serious, not all of us can afford designer clothes. We may save up to get that big-girl-bag we have been dying to get for a really long time, or those pricy heels that hurt your feet yet make you look beyond fabulous. With that being said, us fashionistas want to wear the beautiful designer clothes without paying the designer price.
Cue Prabal Gurung. The Nepalese-American designer collaborated with Target for a collection aptly titled “Love”. The name of the collection fits it to a tee, literally. Like many of us who eat, breathe, and live fashion, I had been looking up the collection online, picking out my favorites to purchase the day of the release.
The dresses I ended up getting were the Drop Waist Dress in First Date Print and the Short Sleeve Dress in First Date Print. I like how the Dropped Waist Dress is fun and more casual and the Short Sleeve Dress is more dress yet the print is the same on both. They are completely different looks that will help you stand out in a good way.
Aside from not carrying the entire collection in store, there were a few things I wish had been different. For one of the dresses I purchased, the lining was sewn over the zipper and because of that I didn’t get a chance to try it on at the store. It was the last one left so I asked for a discount and fixed it at home.
In addition, stock was very limited, and there only one of each size, maybe two if you were lucky. I understand it’s a limited edition collection but I wish there was a bit more to try on. Lastly, and this has nothing to do with the collection per se, but if you look for the “Love” collection online it is kind of insane how much people are marking up the prices to make a profit on websites such as eBay. Something that could have been purchased for less than $50 is now selling online for about $200. That’s borderline insane.
I really love the collection. It’s bright, feminine and simply beautiful. Gurung definitely had the female body in mind when he designed this collection, striving to accentuate curves and confidence. The prints are funky, psychedelic, and girly. Gurung focused on using the latest trends to inspire the frugal fashionista. I am really pleased with the purchases I made and cannot wait to wear them on a date with the boyfriend; it is a “Love” collection after all.
What about you, did you go out to a Target store for the Prabal Gurung collection? If so, how did it go? What is your favorite item from the collection?
