Prom is usually the first time in a young woman’s life when she can transform herself into a red carpet diva from an everyday girl. Planning for the event is a serious task and finding the perfect dress is the most important piece of the puzzle. When I attended my first prom, I looked towards red carpet fashion for inspiration.
There were so many trends happening this awards season on the red carpet for you to draw inspiration from for your prom or special event. Capped off by the always glamorous Oscars, below are some great styles to steal from the red carpet for your prom.
Metallic was everywhere this awards season! Popular at the Oscars, was the sleek gun metal sported by Ms. Halle Berry in Marchesa on the Oscars red carpet and Jennifer Lawrence at the Vanity Fair after party.

Cut outs are still hot and rightfully so. They edge up and look from cutesy to good girl gone bad. Walking Dead actress Danai Gurira walked the red carpet at The Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party in a stunning Tadashi Shoji gown.
This Mignon Gown features color blocking AND cut outs. Wearing this to any event is sure to make you a standout in a crowd.
Solange just KNOWS that yellow is her color. Every time she she rocks the hue, Ms. Solange kills it. She wore an Emilio Pucci gown to the Vanity Fair After Party and looked absolutely fabulous.
This BCBG MAXAZRIA gown is a beautiful shade of yellow and perfect for prom. The off the shoulder design is also very on trend.
