The award show titled “May Day,” was in conjunction with Wear it Out Wednesday hosted by The Fashion Awards MD, Bonneau Caprece, Kellie Easton, The Grand and The Baltimore Fashion Alliance. Baltimore, Maryland: The Next Fashion Capital
When we think of places to scope out the latest trends, many people neglect to look in the direction of Baltimore. Fashion Awards Maryland is on a quest to change those thoughts. The Tremont Hotel was packed with fashionable people with tremendous talent, and that was hard to deny. Everyone had a sense of pride and glamour.
In the past, it seems as if designers and artists leave Baltimore to make a name for themselves due to the perception of the lacking opportunities in the area. But that is a perception quickly fading. Just like with anything else, opportunity presents itself to those who are willing to work hard and wait for it. Each Fashion Awards of Maryland nominee put out blood, sweat, and tears to make their name known. There were thousands
of people who were hoping for a chance to even be nominated. Thousands of people, in the DMV area only. If that doesn’t say fashion capital, then I don’t know what does. From those thousands of people hoping for a chance at a nomination, few wereselected, and only one from each category won. I feel like I just had a Tyra Banks on ANTM moment here. The point trying to be made is that there are a lot more people who want to pursue a dream in fashion that are located in the DMV area than we may think.
It’s not just politics and technology anymore. It is evident, Baltimore is making itself known as the next fashion capital with many more fashionable nights to come!
Doors opened at 6:30pm, giving us time to network and mingle amongst the DMV area’s most fashionable and stylish. The Grand Colonnade Hall on the venue’s third floor, was a fashion show in itself. We found designers, hair stylists, makeup artists, vendors and all things CHIC. Conversations echoed throughout the hall over passed hors d’oeuvres and wine. After a few hours of mingling, business card exchanges and the initiation of new collaborations, we were whisked away to the 2nd floor to get ready for the show.
This years’ show was different from 2012 – this show was specifically for emerging and rising star categories. The established artists will get have their award ceremony on June 15. The show started with a runway presentation from many of the nominees in the established categories. This gave everyone one last peek at their work so they can cast their vote for their favorite. After the runway show, it was time, the moment we were all here for. And the winners are…

“My best ideas usually start with a sheet of college ruled paper. It’s something about those two blue lines surrounding a blank space that spark my creative vision. My love of fashion and beauty consumed my life so much that I had to write about it.”
