Old Town Alexandria is filed with vintage romance and modern luxury. Streets are filled with delicious restaurants as well as little boutiques where you find things you didn’t even know existed. Where every block has a restaurant that smells more delicious than the last one. How could you possibly pick one? Old Town is one of those cities that you flock to whenever there is a beautiful day or you want to get away and feel like you’re in a quaint little town in Europe.
I love trips to Old Town, walk around the city and explore the shops they have, then grab some frozen custard and sit out by the waterfront. The views from Old Town are absolutely stunning, covering parts of Virginia, DC, and Maryland. While sitting on a bench or walking around town I like to get inspired by what people are wearing and what the latest trends are from the stores.
It was somewhat chilly the day I decided to go to brunch in Old Town. I layered with some thin fabrics to keep me comfortable, not too hot or cold, throughout the day. I am really obsessed with the graphic look that you get when you combine black and white and prints together, so I opted for that look by layering a white knit sweater over a black and white cotton dress. I paired this with stockings and pair of Nine West boots that I got for 80% off at Macy’s! If you are looking for a great discount, always buy items off season. That’s always easier said than done when you want to buy the latest looks and dress for the season, but one item or two like boots and coats during the Spring, and sandals and dresses during the winter is always a great way to save.
The purse that I had is actually vintage, given to me by my mother’s friend and I thought the look of it was very on trend, considering it is from the 60s! It’s kind of like my new little treasure, and it even has a mirror inside for a quick makeup check. I tried to make the rest of the look as simple as possible, pulling my hair back and adding some black, white and gold earrings for a little pop of color. I loved the combination of patterns and layers mixed into one outfit, it was definitely something I have always wanted to put together and have seen on fashion websites and magazines.
While it may get more crowded during the weekends, but honestly what beautiful city doesn’t, visiting Old Town is definitely worth the trip. If you live in Maryland and don’t feel like making the drive out to Old Town you can always catch the water taxi which stops in Old Town as well as the National Harbor, also a great place to visit!
While in Old Town make sure to check out the Torpedo Factory, which is basically a free gallery with work from many local artists that you can look at and purchase, or simply get inspiration from! If you’re looking for accessories Lou Lou’s is one of my favorite stores. You will be amazed by the selection they have and everything is reasonably priced! You won’t regret making that stop! Also, if you want to splurge on yourself and your tummy get something to eat at the Chart House. Their fish selection is amazing and tastes really fresh. If you still have room for dessert, you have to eat their Hot Chocolate Lava Cake. There are no words to describe the wonderfulness that is that dessert. Just make sure you order 30 minutes in advance, since it’s made from scratch!
