Watching any award show is fun but this one being in Las Vegas is even better because the artists and attendees can get a little more creative and show off their personality’s. Vegas is the place to dress a little sexier, push the limit a little further and have a lot more fun. Most award shows are so formal that everyone is in long gowns and up-dos but the Billboard Music Awards are an eclectic variety of long and short hems, plunging necklines, turtlenecks, glitter and cut outs. You never know what you are going to get so it is always fun to watch and see who wows us and who missed the mark.
My first favorite red carpet look at the Billboard Music Awards was Selena Gomez in Atelier Versace.
Selena is right on trend with the white dress and adds some youthfulness with the neon trim. She is showing skin in all the right places while still looking age appropriate. By putting her hair up she was able to let the dress stand on its own making it one of my favorites of the night. She is really coming into her own and showing the world that she is fashion forward and not afraid to stand out.
My next favorite look was Kelly Rowland in Rami Al Ali Couture.
She picked the perfect metallic dress to light up the blue carpet. The silhouette compliments her curves just right and finishes off the look with an elegant touch. The texture on this dress creates an amazing illusion that drew me in right away. Her shoes make the outfit simply chic.
Rounding out my top three is Taylor Swift in Zuhair Murad.
She chose the perfect mix of metallic, sequence and cut outs that are right on trend. She looked so comfortable in her own skin and seems to be growing into her own body. The long sleeves and short hem make it a perfect ten in my opinion, and the intricate beading it is absolutely beautiful. Her pumps are dainty but bold which helps make this look go from girly to goddess.
Kicking off my least favorite looks I have to start with Carly Rae Jepsen, I think she was headed in the right direction but then took a huge turn to just plain wrong. There is no fluidity with this dress causing it to look limp and boring. The panels falling to her sides do not do anything for the dress, making it look like it was cut up and thrown around her body with no purpose.
Madonna, my next least favorite look, had too much on top and not enough on the bottom. Her skirt left nothing for the imagination causing my attention to be down a little too far. She needed to balance out the look a little more and create a shift in focus– who wants people starring at your thighs? She needs to learn to be a little more age appropriate but while still being herself, she needs to find a balance to create a sexy but sleek look.
Lastly, I was not impressed with Kesha’s look. The sleeves on her Givency dress made her shoulders look too wide and body too boxy. By adding a belt she would have been able to create a waistline helping to make a sexier, more feminine silhouette. The slit down the sides showed practically her whole behind and was not a good look. She needs to learn how to emphasize the best parts of her body by wearing clothes that show off her body type instead of trying to hide it entirely.
What have we learned: well, Christina is one hot momma, JLo still has the moves, and Taylor Swift dominates Pop-Culture.
