This time of year we get out all of our bright colored sundresses along with anything else in our closet that has a pop of color. What about adding pops of color to our makeup, more specifically, eyeliner? Now that you have your blush and lipstick applications down, it’s time for colored eyeliner tips! We have seen celebrities rocking this makeup trend on the red carpets and at events. Someone who does this look well is Taylor Swift, who has been spotted with blue-green eyeliner recently.
If you look closely at Taylor’s eyes, you can see she added black eyeliner to her top lash line and used the blue-green liner on her bottom lash line and even to the outer corners of her eyes. The rest of her eye makeup is kept simple, which is key to making the look work. Another trick that we see on Swift is that she used a white eye-shadow, or perhaps it is a highlighter, to the inner corners of her eyes. This makes her eyes pop and also makes her look more refreshed, a trick we can all use after not getting enough ZZZ’s.
Rihanna also rocked the blue eyeliner look on her hazel eyes. Again, we see that the rest of the makeup is kept more subtle and the focus goes directly to her eyes. On Rihanna, we see that the eyeliner is mostly along her lower lash line and also goes a bit around the outer corners of her eyes. I love that her dress is similar in color to her eye makeup and that although her accessories are minimal, the silver on her earrings makes the look pop even more.
Beyonce’s navy eyeliner look is a great example of an eyeliner color that compliments all eye colors. You can see there is a soft line of navy eyeliner on her bottom lash line, and on the top lash line all the way up to the crease of her eyes, is the navy eyeliner. Everything else is once again kept natural, with just a tiny bit of shimmer on her inner corners. Her cheeks and lips have a rosy-peachy tint to them but it’s not too heavy that it takes away from her eyes. One similarity to Rihanna’s look is that the earrings and navy eyeliner are alike in color, and this trick brings the focus back to her eyes.
Lea Michelle tried the purple eyeliner to accentuate her brown eyes. The way she lined her eyes kind of look like a sideways “V” around the outer corners of her eyes. It seems like all the makeup artists know the makeup trick to keep everything else simple and natural to keep the focus on the eyes. And it works!
Emma Stone went a bit more bold by using a color that is slightly darker than her green eyes. Although most of the looks we have seen have nude, barely pink lip color, Emma has a darker pink color in this look. If you look closely at her eyes, you can see there is also a hint of brown eyeliner on the outer corners of her eyes and it’s blended in with the green eyeliner. Also, the makeup is mixed in with eyeshadow, giving it a more blended effect.
Here are a few tips to make the color eyeliner look work:
- Use a nude shadow on your lids to steer away from looking clownish.
- For blue eyes you can try the blue-green Taylor has on, a darker blue shade, dark browns, or dark greens.
- For brown eyes go for purple like Lea, olive green, navy like Beyonce, or even brown.
- For hazel eyes, purple, navy blue, light blue like Rihanna, and brown look great.
- For green eyes you can try purple, brown and green like Emma.
- If you are opting for bold eyeliner color, keep the rest of your makeup soft, including your cheeks and lips.
- Try a slicked back hairdo if you want your eyes to be the statement of your look.
- A great outfit idea to complete your look is an all white outfit. Perfect for the summer!
