It’s that time of the year. Summer is coming to an end and we have to start thinking about the new school year. Not only do we have to plan what we need to have a good start, but we also need to be ready to impress on our first day. And how do we do that? Well, duh! By updating out wardrobe, of course! Here at Mz Mahogany Chic we have a guide with the best trends for 2013-14 that can be applied to all ages for you to have a CHIC start this year at school!
The basic items you need are:
Of course we’ll start with the most popular item of clothing there will ever be. Comfy and versatile, you can easily pair them up with a statement shirt or cute blouse. And don’t forget about printed jeans, not just the classic blue. A denim vest or jacket will give your outfit a great finish and it will make you look really cool!
Plaid dresses. Not too short, it will give you the right amount of smartness and edge entering the new school year. Then again, add a denim vest, jacket or a cardigan on top (classroom could be cold at times), and you are all set!
Flirty skirts. If you want to go half between jeans and dresses, then a skirt is the way to go. Go crazy and pair up prints and patterns. This year is go bold or go home!
Flats. It will be a lot easier to walk around campus in flats rather than in heels (leave them for the weekend’s night out’s). There are so many options – sparkly ballet flats, wedge sneakers (big this season!), leopard print flats, motorcycle or cowboy boots… you name it. And all go hand in hand with dresses, skirts and jeans.
Bright, Bold & Sassy Statements
Bright, bold, sassy statements. Every outfit needs cool accessories. So choose neon necklaces, bracelets or bags. Choose a graphic tee. Camo jacket? Why not?? Just make sure it speaks about you and what you want to achieve – think about your own personal style!
As Betsy Johnson wisely says, “Go to school looking like you! Feel comfortable, confident, and happy.” And ultimately that’s all that matters. If you feel comfortable on your skin, and you look chic without being worried about what you are wearing, then you’ll have fun on your first day of school and the rest of the year! Get an A+ not only on your style, but also on your classes!
