If there is one piece of clothing that will never ever become old, it is a pair of jeans. Since its invention, back in 1873, Levi Strauss tried to create something that would be comfortable for workers. And he succeeded. Fast forward some years, and you will find James Dean wearing them and making the jeans a staple of young people in the 1960’s. That’s where the revolution began. After so much time spent figuring out the perfect fit for both women and men, we believe we have reached our goal of loving jeans so much there is probably no one on earth who cannot live without them (except for my grandmother). Just when you thought there couldn’t be another twist to something so classic like jeans, there it is. They’ve come up with new ideas to modernize the simplest thing. And I think they have succeeded yet again.
This is not completely new. Jeans have gone through some changes overtime, while still maintaining the basics. The idea is still to make these casual, comfortable pants into more formal, but still comfortable pants. And now that prints are on their peak, denim could not be fallen behind. All throughout last spring and summer we’ve seen floral, patterned denim pants, and they actually look very chic and they give an unexpected freshness to such a classic. This season, street fashionistas and celebrities have decided to step it up a bit more. Denim over denim is definitely still on trend!
I know… we used to think that a blue denim shirt with blue jeans were “over the top” or “too much”. But paired them the right way, and it can actually work! Why do we change our minds like that? I don’t know, maybe because we didn’t pay attention to the details? And there’s where the whole thing lies… in the details! So lately, what we have been seeing in the street is the following: You can wear as much denim as you want in one outfit – the key is to choose different shades of denim. Remember Britney and Justin back in the day? We definitely don’t want that! (Glad he eventually brought the sexyback!)
Now if you are convinced you have to wear the same color, then our suggestion is to add a thin belt and a popping accessories, to distract the eyes. Also, make sure you add washed textures into the mix, then again, so as not to look dated with your look. Check out Ralph Lauren latest Collection, and Gap and Banana Republic brands.
Finally, make sure you try out different denim items, such as blazers, jackets and vest; not just shirts. Play with them. Add print, patterned or cut-out jeans, and the latest: double-jackets and patchwork denim. Now that totally brings me back to my childhood days…
Are you brave enough to go out wearing denim head-to-toe? Of course you are! You are reading this, so you are CHIC…and denim on denim is being CHIC!
