Eden Miller was one of the six designers chosen at the Fashion Law Institute to showcase her Spring 2014 plus-size line, Cabiria, at New York Fashion Week. Miller will invite top fashion editors and buyers and have the chance to court them during the 8-day sprint. Miller says she “made an invite list that included buyers, bloggers, and influencers . . . including straight-size fashion influencers.” Nordstrom and Saks also was invited in order to have a better chance at hitting a wider scope.
It will be a feat for the plus-size line to break out of the noise that is New York Fashion Week. But it is possible. There are high hopes that the show will be looked at as either “a good show” or “a bad show” sans the size discrimination. She specifically reached out to magazines that have featured plus-size fashion in the past, like Marie Claire and InStyle (both have monthly columns that feature plus-size designs). She’s also counting on Redbook, the only major women’s magazine to have already featured Cabiria, as well as plus-size bloggers like Nicolette Mason and Gabbi Greg.
