DC Fashion Week showcased international fashion designs for the Spring/Summer 2014 Collections September 21st-29th with worldwide media coverage with Shy Magazine, countless media photographers, models, and international designers from Nigeria to France. Founder Ean Williams assured viewers would get a unique experience this season showing the fashion diversity within the district and casting a spell over the media. As Mercedes Benz Fashion Week twitter followers increased from 201,000 to 212,000, DC Fashion Week was 2nd with an increase from 59,000 to 157,000 followers. DC Fashion Week surpassed Fashion Weeks from Atlanta, Baltimore, Miami, Dallas, Philadelphia and more!

The DC Fashion Week kick-off started on September 21st with a pre-show at the “H Street Festival” with 10 blocks of festivities, food, fun, fashion and music and with free admission, everyone could come and enjoy the outdoor festival. Fashion designs from Catwalk Boutique, Heydari, Khan Pham, Modern Mary, Taylor Made Designs, Tim Bro Collection and Our Secret Closet took the runway by storm as grey clouds and rainfall came through. Special guest and America’s Next Top Model contestant from Season 20 Chris came by to walk down the runway! While the showers attempted to prohibit the show from continuing, Ean Williams told models that the show will continue and the last few designers took to the runway and finished with confidence.
The Eco Fashion Show turned heads September 23rd as designers went green with their high fashion designs. From Isagus Extroversions, Project Blue Wrap, Red Zipper to Simply L3ve as high fashion meets earth friendly trends. From models sporting wood collared dresses with wood flecked accents on a tulle hem to cuddly soft animals and flower constructed tea length dresses. Nothing is out of the ordinary when it comes to setting a fashion statement on the catwalk!
Corjor International Couture Fashion Show took place September 24th at madam Tussuads Wax Museum as DC Fashion Week Founder and Executive Director Ean Williams debuted his collection of captivating and awe inspiring gowns!
The Emirates Designers Showcase on September 25th portrayed sleek and captivating floor length gowns of black, gold, and creams. Models graced the runway draped in gold accents, cream gowns of satin and lace glimmered down the runway to dazzling black sequin dresses that turned heads. As Abeer AlSuwaidi, House of Fatam, and Sugar Vintage Couture dominated the runway on Wednesday night, the strength in quality over quantity made this a night to remember. These designers sought out to reveal the fashion trends of Muslim garb with a bang and this is only the beginning.
The Fashion Industry Networking Party on September 26th included photographers, models, designers and all those who desired to come and network. The show had attendees on the edge of their seats as the men sported bold colored pants and patterned ties while the female models rocked the runway in red, black and white swimsuits with vibrant ties or body chains for a pop of personality. At the end of the show, the night continued with drinks and entertainment as everyone moved from the runway to the gleaming bar counter to enjoy new company and a successful night!
The Haute & Modesty Design Showcase September 27th continued to demonstrate the classic look of Muslim high fashion designs of casual summer wear, floral bodysuits, embellished and captivation dresses, to vibrant head wraps and jewelry. Mali Rose, Cover Me Beautiful, Nahda Designs, Sabika Seattle, LiaWear Action, Sanriq Stylz, MSQU2ARED Fashions gave the audience striking color combinations of blue, yellow, coral, rose, black, mossy greens, garnet reds and more as this night continued to show the world that these high fashion designs are here to leave their mark in the fashion world.
On Saturday September 28th, the M.E.D.I.A Showcase for emerging designers, gave a taste of high fashion variety from designers such as Underground Market Clothing Company, Hudiefly, Ankara Fashions, Ranti Exclusive, TransElated LLC, Invaders Clothing, Neos District, Prima Rouge, April Mehraban, Dragon King’s Daughter (DKD) and Seamless Fashion. From edgy cocktail gowns of smoky greys, browns and crimson reds, Nigerian inspired designs, and the unique TransElated designer bag that strutted down the runway struck the audience with a jolt.
The final show on September 29th was the 19th International Couture Collection Showcase that gave international designers the opportunity to showcase the latest designs for their Spring/Summer 2014 Collections. Designers such as Alene Fede, Anjoreen Couture! Chalina Couture, Corjor International, Firefly Designs Africa * Asia, George Adesegun, Heritage Collection by Ashraf Valliani, Heydari, Prisa, Rikaoto and Siqin. This couture showcase shows Washingtonians know how to find variety, beauty and international brilliance from Asian designs, French influence and African inspired collections.
