Season 2 of Fashion Star just premiered last friday and from the first episode we can tell that it is going to be a great season. The theme of this episode was Showstopper and there were some designs that did just that and others that just made us want to say “Stop!”
The three mentors, Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson, and John Varvatos are back, but with a twist. Instead of everyone working together, which is basically what happened last season, this season each mentor picked four designers to be part of their team. Within the first five minutes of the show there was already a hashtag craze for the mentors, these were #TeamJohn, #TeamNicole, and #TeamJessica. There is also a new host in town, Louise Roe, who always looks fabulous, and tonight was no exception, wearing a Black Halo dress. The bidding wars have also begun, with Saks Fifth Avenue, Express and Macy’s wanting to get the latest trends with the greatest fits in their stores. The highest the bid can go up to is $200,000 and spoiler alert, it happened friday!
The first team to go was John Varvatos’ and there were some looks that everyone could wear. The first to go was a cute, short, color blocked dress with a peek-a-boo cut-out in the front. This Mod inspired dress is now available at Express for $69.90. Definitely a great look for Spring. There was also probably the new favorite word for fashionistas: 2-fer! Better known as two-for-one.
The second team to go was Nicole Richie’s team, who had many different looks tonight. The romper, pictured above, the tulip dress, skinny pants, and a dress with a funky design placed over some sheer fabric. Sheer is also in! Three out of these four looks ended up getting offers, leaving the skinny pants without an offer because it just wasn’t showstopping enough.
Last, but certainly not least, maybe in this case, was Jessica Simpson’s team. Jessica’s team had the most “no-offers” of the first episode, totaling at 3, and the last designer, Hunter Bell, proved to be quite successful. Bell had both Saks Fifth Avenue and Express on a full on bidding war for her beautiful cut-out maxi dress. After upping their bids back and forth, both stores were even at $200,000 and Bell, who had worked for Saks previously, ended up going with Saks.
Unfortunately, someone had to be eliminated before the show was over. Six contestants in total (two designers are on one team) ended up being on the bottom, with no offers given. The designers that were on the bottom were Bret from Team Nicole, who’s skinny pants just weren’t showstopping enough to the stores representatives, and the other was the duo, JesseRay and Garrett from Team Jessica. Bret ended up being eliminated, while skinny pants are cute, they just didn’t go along with the showstopper theme. Is it just me or did anybody else think the sheath dress was actually quite boring?
Sheer, cut-outs, rompers, and pretty dresses were all the talk in this episode. These designs will definitely be quite popular for Spring, we have seen them all over the runaways and fashion weeks and now they will be available at a store near us.
What did you think of the first episode of season two of Fashion Star? Will you keep tuning in every Friday? Will you buy the winning designs?
