Every gal loves fashion. But we can’t always afford it. Well, Target is aware of our suffering and gives us a taste of expensive designers through collaborations such as Prabal Gurung. This time, the company paired up with Phillip Lim, and a new collaboration was officially announced this week. Phillip Lim for Target consists of 100 items for both men and women including apparel, shoes, bags and travel accessories. It ranges in price from $19.99 to $299.99 for apparel and $19.99 to $59.99 for accessories. The full collection will hit stores on September 15th.
Since introducing 3.1 Phillip Lim in 2005 with friend and fabric supplier Wen Zhou, Lim has continuously challenged the contemporary market with cutting-edge sophistication and quality. He was honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America with the Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-Wear, accepting Womenswear in 2007 and Menswear in 2012. 3.1 Phillip Lim also received the CFDA award for 2013 Accessory Designer of the Year.
“One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire – one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible”
In a statement, the designer reveals that it took him five years to be convinced to collaborate with Target. He said what the company was asking him to create did not correlate to what his own beliefs of fashion are. But after the fifth time coming back to him, they finally agreed that the designer’s own brand and trademark should be displayed on this collection.
According to Lim, this is how he came up with his inspiration and starting point, “I didn’t want to approach it as a diffusion line of cocktail dresses. I took what I do and what they could do and blended it all together and used the codes of my house with the needs of a modern-day person constantly on the go. How do you conquer that every day and if you can, what are the tools? I approached it in a really practical way and tried to relate everything back to the way people relate to clothes”. He also confesses he used to go back-to-school shopping at Target when he was younger, and that nostalgia also played a part in designing this fall collection.
If news of this collaboration made you excited, don’t hesitate on September 15th! This could be your one and only chance to own something by the designer. Although he does not discard the possibility, he is pretty sure he would not do this again, or branch out a less expensive line. Even until the last minute he hesitated about this collaboration (thank you for changing your mind, Phillip Lim!).
3.1 Phillip Lim for Target is a sophisticated and elevated collection that is both beautiful and functional. Rooted in a classic fall palette of neutral tones and prints, the collection features a variety of versatile, affordable pieces that modern women and men can wear on-the-go, while remaining effortlessly chic.
We are sure that this highly expected collaboration is going to be a great success and, we can’t wait to try on some of the clothes. What do you think? Also, let us know your thoughts after your visit to Target! Check out the rest of the collection below and let it be a teaser of what you will find at the store.
