Christian Dior replaces John Galliano with Belgian Raf Simons as it’s new artistic director.
According to the Washington Post, the appointment comes seven months after star designer John Galliano was convicted by a Paris court for making anti-Semitic insults. The fashion house dismissed Galliano just a few days before their March 2011 runway show, because he drunkenly insulted a customer at a cafe in Paris. A video captured his controversial remarks and subsequently went viral.
The job of artistic director has been open since then.
Simons, who previously designed for the Jil Sander fashion house, was considered a top candidate for the job. A statement by Dior on Monday said Simons “will inspire and propel into the 21st century” the style of the prestigious house.
I can’t wait to see him take Dior to a new level.
