Nafessa Williams is a young, beautiful and hip actress gracing our TV sets via daytime soaps. I had the fabulous opportunity to ask Nafessa about her amazingly beautiful hair. Check out what she said…
Mz Mahogany: How did you get your start as an actress?
Nafessa: I started my career as a model actually. I did a lot of print, hair and beauty. One day I decided to take an acting class and I fell in love! I traveled to New York daily from my hometown Philadelphia for acting classes. Soon after, I was signed to an agency and the auditions began to roll in.
Mz Mahogany: What was it like being a part of the One Life to Live cast?
Nafessa: OMG it was a dream come true. I am super grateful to have been a part of such an historic show. Not to mention I learned so much from this experience. Soap work is really fast, so you’ve got to be on point.
Nafessa: Thank you! Well I’ve had the same hairstylist, Annagjid “Kee Kee” Taylor, for 10 years. I have to give her all the credit. I try my best to apply heat to my hair only once a month. Too much heat is never good on your hair. And before I blow my hair out, I use Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Heat Protection Serum. I only use ceramic flat irons and I get a trim every 6-8 weeks.
Mz Mahogany: Do you do anything different at night or when you’re on the road working?
Nafessa: Every night I wrap my hair with a silk or satin scarf and my pillowcases are satin in case my scarf comes off.
Mz Mahogany: Is your hair natural or chemically straightened?
Nafessa: My hair is naturally straightened.
Nafessa: I have been natural for about 12 years now. I noticed the change in my hair once I relaxed it; not long after, I decided to grow the perm out. I’m wearing my natural curls now and tend to wear it curly in the summer. It’s perfect for warm weather and workouts. I would never ever get a relaxer again; it damages your natural texture way too much. Besides all you need are a hot comb and little heat to get the job done.
Mz Mahogany: Women tend to be very picky about their hair. How on earth do you survive without your stylist Kee Kee Taylor while you are away filming and she is unavailable?
Nafessa: Oh yes I am very picky about my hair. Kee Kee taught me the basics so I’m able to maintain my hair when she is not around. I love big curly hair and wearing my hair in rod sets.
Mz Mahogany: Are you currently working on anything?
Nafessa: Yes I am currently recurring on The Bold and The Beautiful
Nafessa Williams also has a non-profit organization, Beautiful Girls, based in Philadelphia. They mentor and guide teenage girls from the ages of 8 – 18.
