Have fun while being a fashionista on a budget. Grab that old pair of jeans lying in your closet, go thrifting, or dig through your mom’s closet to find a pair of vintage jeans. Your one-of-a-kind denim shorts shows originality and are a summer must-have!
Summer 2012 introduces a variety of DIY jean short trends from ombre to studded designs. Check out some new trends:
Bleach or dye your jean shorts to make the color fade from top to bottom. Dip wet shorts halfway into the dye or bleach for approximately 10 minutes. Repeat step one until satisfied by only dipping the tip of your shorts in the darkest shade to create fading effect.
Grab a pair of white denim jeans or bleach a pair thoroughly to make them white. Soak them in water and prepare dye colors of your choice. Have fun by putting dye in whatever order you want on both front and back of the shorts. Make sure not to mix colors too much so the dye doesn’t turn brown. Let the shorts sit for six or more hours; the longer you wait, the more intense the color will be. Rinse thoroughly, and then put jeans in the washer and dryer.
Cut shorts however you wish and give them an edgy look by adding studs. Poke a small hole through the jeans where you would like to have your stud. Plug the spikes on the bottom of the stud into the hole you made with the needle. Use tweezers to push the spikes in to secure stud. Repeat and continue until you reach your desired look.
You could wear all of these shorts with a simple top and bold accessories to complete an outfit where you are bound to stand out. Enjoy!
