Newly off the wave of the summer Olympics, London is fresh on everyone’s mind. The timing of the anticipated show couldn’t be better; come September 14 another highly anticipated show is set to begin: London Fashion Week. And this year, there’s a special “muse” of the Disney variety; Minnie Mouse.
Touted as the “Minnie Mouse Must Haves,” the famous polka-dotted character will have one-off designs inspired by her iconic look. These one-of-a-kind looks will be then auctioned off on eBay with proceeds going to the British Fashion Council initiative, Fashion Arts Foundation, which promotes and fosters relationships between different artistic industries.
So what are these looks? British designers such as Richard Nicoll, Katie Hillier, Giles Deacon, Terry de Havilland, Michael van der Ham and more will take inspiration from all the things that make Minnie Mouse, well, Minnie. From polka dots, bows, white gloves, and that bright red color palette, the looks will definitely be identifiable.
Before you start thinking, cute but unwearable, think again. Polka dots have been a very popular trend this spring and summer, especially the classic black and white look (remember the Louis Vuitton Kusama storefront in NY?). As for the ears? The topknot bun, or the sock-bun, were also very popular this season and are a nod to those adorable round ears! These looks are sure to stick around for Spring Summer 2013.
So keep your eyes on this year’s London Fashion Week and make sure you catch a glimpse of that CHIC Ms. Minnie!
