Bollywood. At this point, the name is just as synonymous with Hollywood as it is in its own right. With its influence in music, fashion, and beauty, Bollywood has jumped from the big screen to the mainstream in full force.
Bollywood is India’s movie and entertainment industry, but with a multi-million dollar business and over 800 movies out every year, its scope reaches farther than even Hollywood’s. With its booming middle class, the world of high fashion and eastern culture collide with India’s own fashion week, and fashion Bibles like Vogue India and Harpers Bazaar India. But its not just Indian tastemakers promulgating the colorful and diverse culture- fashion designers and celebrities worldwide are getting in on the action.
There’s nothing that screams Bollywood more that the clothing. From Aishwarya Rai teaching Oprah how to wrap a sari to Hayden Panettiere rocking a sari-inspired Marchesa gown to this year’s Emmys, Bollywood inspires some vibrant and intricate looks.

The clothes are categorized by hues of marigold, orange, hot pink, turquoise, corals, and more. Patterns and textures are also important. The “squash” look is a popular traditional look, along with other ornate designs. Shiny, sleek, silky, eve gauzy materials are also a must. We can’t forget heavy beading and embroidery work, thats even popular with resort looks next season.

You can’t complete the looks without finishing off with some accessories. Chandelier-style earrings, big jewels, chunky designs to delicate finger-wrist bracelets define the Bollywood jewelry aesthetic. Headpieces, typically worn by South Asian brides, are a popular trend among Hollywood celebrities, as well as the more recent popularity of the common Indian bridal version of the finger-wrist bracelet.

Last but certainly not least is beauty. And if Bollywood clothing and accessories have their trademarks, then Bollywood beauty sure does; eye kohl, or as its most commonly known, kajal. This smoldering dark-rimmed look is the staple in Bollywood makeup, as it dates back many, many years.
This look is easy to get however, thanks to brands like Stila and its “Eye Kajal” in “Onyx.”

The blush to give you that warm glow has to be Nars’ “Taj Mahal.” Bright orange with specks of gold, this blush is perfect for tan to dark skin toned beauties. But fair tones needn’t worry, because a light application will still give you a healthy tanned look!
