In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, its been really hard to kind of get back into the groove of things. This week was the first time that some of us were able to go back to school and work and try get back to some normalcy.
Unfortunately, there are still some people who won’t have power for days, even weeks. Some don’t have hot water or food while others are newly homeless. My heart has been broken for all of those who have lost pretty much everything they own. Right now they all need as much cheerfulness and help as we can possibly give!
How can we at least try to bring some normalcy to lives of those who have basically lost everything? In addition to donating canned goods and clothing supplies, I think it would be nice to give those in shelters the opportunity to feel as comfortable as we can possibly make them in these hard times. Skin and hair products are in demand and will bring smiles and warm hearts as people try to rebuild their lives and homes.
I’m sure we all have plenty of gently used and hardly used items that we could donate (especially those hair product junkies out there). Yeah, its time to hand it over and bring some kindness and cheer to someone who needs it. Below are some spirit boosting Hurricane Sandy donation ideas and further information on where to send supplies, food, and clothing for Hurricane Sandy victims:
Makeup: Lipsticks can be sterilized in alcohol to get rid of any germs (by dipping the lipstick and wiping the excess) Also, cutting the top of the lipstick gives it a better aesthetic look for donations. Regular powder shadows and blushes are safe to donate. As long as your fingers haven’t touched inside the bottle, liquid foundations are okay to donate.
NAIL CARE: Nail polish, nail polish remover, and hand/skin creams and oils (in tubes) are all safe to donate.
Skin and Hair Care: Toss all products that come in a jar and only donate lotions and creams that comes in bottles or tubes for sanitary purposes. Hair brushes and combs can be donated after sterilization in alcohol.
